Update on the 2026 Climate Positive Pathway Rules in Green Star Buildings v1
In August 2025, the GBCA published an update advising that the scheduled 2026 Climate Positive Pathway rules within Green Star Buildings v1 would not come into effect for any star rating.
This means that the Climate Positive Pathway requirements known as the 2023 rules continued to apply to new projects registering under Green Star Buildings v1. The extension was provided to support a smooth transition to Green Star Buildings version 1.1, which launched in late 2025.
From 1st May 2026, new projects must register under Green Star Buildings v1.1, and updated Climate Positive benchmarks apply.
As per FAQ F-00372, projects that reach practical completion after 1st January 2030 are still to meet the 2030 Climate Positive Pathway requirements, regardless of the project's registration date.
