FAQ F-00370
Clarifications on EN 15804 in the Life Cycle Impacts credit from Green Star Buildings v1

This FAQ was updated 04/07/2025 to provide updated guidance on EN 15804+A2.

Can projects use data reported against EN 15804+A2?

Yes, projects may use data reported in line with EN 15804+A2.

Project teams may do so by using the Life Cycle Impacts calculator available on the resources portal, and completing the tab for the applicable EN 15804 standard that the Life Cycle Assessment was reported to.

What does the 'Net Use of Freshwater' category refer to?
The GBCA clarifies that 'Net Use of Freshwater' refers to the resource use indicator on water use rather than an impact category.
The GBCA acknowledges that a water stress impact would be preferable however this was not included in construction EPDs at the time the credit was developed. Therefore, the 'Net Use of Freshwater' resource indicator was deemed the most appropriate metric based on recommendations from the technical consultant engaged by the GBCA and the Life Cycle Assessment Expert Reference Panel to ensure water use is considered by projects as water supply is a vital issue in the Australian context.
Please note that Net Use of Freshwater in the Life Cycle Impacts calculator is reported in the unit of m3.
