Green Star FAQs

FAQ F-00298
Is whole building airtightness testing recognised in Green Star?

Projects pursuing whole building airtightness testing may target one (1) point through Market Transformation under Green Star - Design & As Built in the Innovation category.  It cannot be used for Green Star Buildings Leadership.

Note that, when targeting this Market Transformation point through Green Star - Design & As Built, one (1) point is available on the condition that all requirements are met under 2.2.3 Air Permeability Testing.

Documentation Requirements:

Project teams wishing to pursue this Market Transformation point are required to provide the following documentation:

  • Evidence that a whole building Design Air Permeability target was declared during the project design phase
  • Evidence that a whole building test was conducted by a suitably qualified practitioner
  • Evidence that a whole building test was carried out in accordance with an established large-building procedure, such as AS/NZS ISO 9972:2015, ATTMA TSL2 or TSL3
  • Airtightness testing certificate, indicating whether the Design Air Permeability target was achieved
  • A copy of this FAQ

Notes:

  • Whole building is defined as the total overall conditioned enclosure surface area.  Where it is not practical to test the entire enclosure in one instance, the project may be tested in sections.  The sum of airflows from each separate test, divided by the sum of conditioned enclosure surface areas, shall represent the weighted average air permeability of the enclosure.  In all cases, 100% of conditioned enclosure surface area shall be tested to qualify for this point.
  • For the purposes of this point, a suitably qualified practitioner is defined as a member of the Air Tightness Testing and Measurement Association (ATTMA) or a testing member of the Air Infiltration and Ventilation Association of Australia (AIVAA).  Please note, there are different membership types within AIVAA – in order for this requirement to be met, the practitioner must be a ‘testing member’ or hold an ATTMA Level 2 Registered Air Tightness Tester certification at the time of testing.
