Green Star FAQs
Can a waste processing facility be Green Star certified or accredited?
No.
The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) is the nation’s authority on sustainable buildings, communities and cities. We rate the sustainability of buildings and communities through Australia’s only national, voluntary, holistic rating system – Green Star. The GBCA does not certify waste contractors or the waste processing facility activities.
For the purposes of targeting the 'Construction and Demolition Waste' credit in Green Star - Design & As Built and Green Star - Interiors, and the 'Responsible Construction' credit in Green Star Buildings projects are required to use waste contractors and waste processing facilities that have been independently verified for compliance with minimum standards of reporting against the Construction and Demolition Waste Reporting Criteria.
In order to maintain transparency the GBCA will not provide confirmation that an auditor is suitably qualified. The GBCA must have no direct involvement in the application of the reporting criteria.
