Green Star FAQs

FAQ F-00118
Can petroleum hydrocarbons and free oils be excluded from pollution reduction targets?

No. While petroleum hydrocarbons and free oils cannot be readily modelled in MUSIC at the time of publishing this FAQ, it is possible to address petroleum hydrocarbons and free oils via stormwater treatment devices such as gross pollutant traps (GPTs) or bioretention swales. Supporting information must be provided for any claimed removal of hydrocarbons for any manufactured stormwater hydrocarbon control measures or landscaping features, including the methodology and results of rigorous ‘real world’ performance reliability testing.

Reduction targets for total petroleum hydrocarbons and free oils are not applicable for projects where the site contains less than a total of 200m2 of uncovered areas where vehicles are likely to transit and/or park (e.g. roads, loading docks, refuelling bays, car parking, etc).
