Talk around the GreenHouse

by Romilly Madew, Chief Executive, GBCA

It's been a busy time around the GreenHouse. Some of our key achievements this month include approving the first four Green Star - Custom tools, BETA testing 28 Green Star - Communities projects, and welcoming two new sponsors for Green Star - Performance: Sustainability Victoria and Brookfield Multiplex. We've also signed a new agreement with the Australian Institute of Architects to boost green skills development.

World Green Building Week Launch

WGBW Launch Cocktail Party

David Rolls (Lend Lease) and Suzanne Young (Commonwealth Bank) at the Lend Lease sponsored World Green Building Week cocktail party in the Commonwealth Bank building at Darling Quarter.

When we launched World Green Building Week three years ago we never imagined it would grow so rapidly. And yet, this year 89 GBCs representing 30,000 companies have joined forces to highlight the important role that buildings play in reducing the global carbon footprint and saving money, while also creating jobs, reducing poverty and improving lives.

It was most fitting to commence the week’s activities at Lend Lease’s Darling Quarter, as our host is a truly global organisation. Lend Lease thinks global and acts local, working closely with GBCs in each region in which it is located. +Read more

GBCA Case Study

Katitjin Centre, WA

The Australian Institute of Management's (AIM) new building, the Katitjin Centre in Western Australia, is a high-performance, environmentally-friendly educational facility representing AIM's investment in a sustainable future.

The Centre is emissions-neutral, meaning it produces as much energy in operation as it consumes. It also features a number of water-efficient features, such as a 42KL rainwater tank for toilet flushing and a 'xeriscape' garden - a method of landscape design that minimises water usage. Coupled with an emphasis on excellent indoor environment quality, the Katitjin Centre is not only better for the environment, but will improve student health and learning outcomes. + Read more
