Building Momentum

The Asset Owners Disclosure Project (AODP) has released the first ever global climate investment index which tracks how big investors are managing climate risk.

Changes to QLD plumbing and drainage laws
In QLD, a new category of plumbing and drainage work has been introduced to cut the red tape associated with routine plumbing and drainage work performed in existing buildings. Learn more

New Chair for GBCA
The GBCA’s Board of Directors has elected a new Chair, Daniel Grollo. Mr Grollo leads Australia’s largest privately-owned development and construction company, Grocon, and has been a Board Director of the GBCA since its inception in 2002. Read more

Planning and partnerships for productive, liveable and sustainable cities
This month has seen the launch by the Hon. Anthony Albanese MP of the Australian Government’s State of Australian Cities 2012 report, which outlines the progress and performance of Australia’s 18 largest cities.

New time limits on Green Star - Design ratings for projects registering after 1 January 2013
From 1 January 2013, the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) is introducing time limits on the Green Star - Design ratings of projects registering after that date.  Read more

BETA testing for Green Star – Performance
The GBCA is now seeking expressions of interest from teams that manage a range of building types for involvement in the BETA testing of draft credits. BETA testing will form one of the last phases of development for Green Star – Performance prior to its release as a PILOT rating tool, and will involve testing of the proposed credit criteria.  Read more

Metcash Distribution Centre
While many still consider the terms ‘industrial’ and ‘sustainability’ to be mutually exclusive, Goodman has challenged this long-held notion on a grand scale at their recent development for Metcash in Eastern Creek, Western Sydney. Incorporating over 77,000 square metres of ambient and temperature-controlled warehouse storage areas and 5,500 square metres of A-grade corporate office space, the Metcash Distribution Centre sets a new ‘best practice’ standard for green industrial facilities in Australia.

NSW releases new 'How to Prepare a Bike Plan' guidelines
Ten years after the first ‘How to Prepare a Bike Plan’ guidelines were produced, NSW Roads and Maritime Services have released the new 2012 version. This guide, while predominately for local councils, can be used by anyone who wants to develop a bike plan, for example schools, hospitals, universities and businesses. Learn more
