Ministerial Keynote Address: The Hon. Don Harwin, Minister for Energy and Utilities

Technologies are changing the way we design and use the built environment. It is vital that industry evolves with these changes to understand how it can be used to create best practice sustainable solutions and generate business.

The Next Generation Utilities Breakfast will discuss the changing role of utilities, property developers, infrastructure and users as we embrace the potential of innovation and technology. Our experts will explore the leading projects and trials paving the way to a new generation of utilities, and what the next gen vision will mean for both industry and customers. 

The Hon. Don Harwin, Minister for Energy and Utilities will deliver the keynote address, followed by a panel of industry speakers, including:

  • Lisa McLean, Chief Executive Officer, Open Cities
  • Catherine Caruana-McManus, Director Meshed IoT Integrators, Smart Cities, LoRaWAN, IoT Alliance Australia
  • Andrew Mather, Managing Director, ANZ, Integral Group
  • Geoff King, Head of Future City, City of Parramatta

The speakers will examine:

  • How technologies are changing the way we design our buildings, precincts and cities.
  • How the uptake of solar and new technologies are changing the role of businesses as well as having implications for the commercial and residential building sector.
  • What are the main barriers and challenges for the development of new models of utilities.
  • What does the industry need to meet the next gen vision? 
  • What are the current leading projects and trials shaping the pathways to a new generation of utilities?
  • How do we deliver better customer choices and empower energy users in a digital world?

The Green Building Council of Australia will also be officially launching the Carbon Positive Roadmap discussion paper at the breakfast.
