A SUMMARY OF BUILT ENVIRONMENT MEETS PARLIAMENT (BEMP) 2011This year’s BEMP program included a number of ministers, MPs and a senator as well as panellists from industry and the keynote speaker, Edward Glaeser, who spoke about ‘The Triumph of the City’ via videoconference from Washington. Sessions focused on resilience, cities and urban development and Australia’s demographic forecast. Feedback from participants was positive and Minister Albanese commended BEMP for keeping the conversation between industry and policy makers open, as it is becoming a significant driver of change.

DANDIIRI CONTACT CENTRE, QLDAwarded a 6 Star Green Star - Office Design rating, the Dandiiri Contact Centre (formerly Joint Contact Centre) is a three storey office building in Brisbane. The striking building features two north-facing wings flowing from a central core with open vertical atriums introducing fresh air and light into the space.
The project utilises exposed thermal mass technology, high levels of insulation and glazing to reduce energy use and improve operational outcomes. It is now registered for Green Star - Office As Built and Office Interiors certification.

LOS SILOS IN TLAJOMULCO, JALISCO, MEXICOThe world's first national sustainable housing program qualifying for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) was developed by CONAVI, Mexico's National Housing Commission.
Los Silos sought to create sustainable, affordable housing of the highest quality for low-income families. The project consists of 6,000 homes on the outskirts of Tlajomulco, Jalisco, Mexico.
