This month the Green Building Council welcomed three new staff: Michelle Malanca (Senior Technical Manager) Elena Bondareva (Technical Manager) and Lidia Fogo (Office Manager).
With Michelle and Elena's arrival the Technical Working Group has been reconvened. They will meet for the first time on Friday 21 October and will be responsible for creating the PILOT Green Star rating tools for the retail, education and health sectors.
We are also pleased to announce the certification of the second 6 Star Green Star - Office Design project - 40 Albert Road, South Melbourne.
Finally, welcome to our newest members: Department for Administrative and Information Services and Department for Environment and Heritage from South Australia, Emanate Design, Grimshaw, Kingspan and Orica Consumer Products.
The Green Building Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Australian Environmental Labelling Association to assist members with green procurement decisions.
Manufacturing members can also receive a 30% discount if they are seeking certification under the Good Environmental Choice Label. Members who have already received certification include: Forbo Flooring, Sustainable Living Fabrics and Wattyl Australia. Read More »

Canberra International Airport has won the Sustainable Building category in Keep Australia Beautiful's ACT Sustainable Cities Award Program for 2005. The award is for the achievements of Brindabella Business Park - an integrated, environmentally conscious commercial development that includes 8 Brindabella Circuit - Australia's first 5 Star Green Star - Office Design rated project. Lismore company Hampton and Larsson, has become the first joinery in Australia to obtain international certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for joinery manufacture.
This means that timber used in the production of so-labelled commercial and residential doors, windows and stairs is guaranteed to have been sourced in forests that are managed according to a strict set of environmental, social and economic standards. Read More »
The Rabobank Group has retained its position as Europe's most sustainable bank. These rankings are revealed by comparing the results of the Swiss Asset Management Group's (SAM) biennial assessment of Rabobank with the results of the SAM 2005 Corporate Sustainability Assessment that were announced in September. The Green Building Council announces that the Technical Working Group (TWG) will reconvene on Friday, 21 October. The all-volunteer TWG will be responsible for creating the next three Pilot Green Star rating tools for the retail, education and health sectors.
