Green buildings rising up the political agenda

by Romilly Madew, Chief Executive, GBCA

Green buildings are working their way up the political agenda, with Prime Minister Julia Gillard emphasising their importance twice during the Leaders' Debate on Sunday night.

Last week, the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) released its 'green building agenda' for 2010-2013. More

GBCA news

Green Star buildings 'explode' across Australia
The GBCA has certified the 250th Green Star building, which is appropriately Australia's first carbon neutral office building, Grocon's Pixel building.

Green Star - evolving, improving
Green Star undergoes regular refinements based on feedback from industry and learnings from each certification. The GBCA has been working on a number of projects aimed at continuously improving Green Star.

Your chance to shape the future of Green Star
As part of our commitment to ongoing review and refinement of the Green Star tools, the GBCA will shortly commence research into the perceptions of Green Star.

Expressions of Interest now open: Green Star - Custom PILOT
Green Star - Custom is a tool development service. Clients will work together with the GBCA to develop a Green Star tool specific to their sector or project in which a Green Star rating can then be sought.

Submit Credit Interpretation Requests (CIRs) online

As part of the GBCA's ongoing efforts to streamline Green Star certification, you can now submit your CIRs online. The new Green Star Project Manager allows you to submit and manage these queries.

GECA recognised under product certification assessment framework
Good Environmental Choice Australia Limited (GECA) is now one of four certification schemes recognised under the Assessment Framework for Product Certification Schemes.

Upcoming research projects
The GBCA will be undertaking a number of sector-based research projects this quarter including Multi Unit Residential and Healthcare. Please email [email protected] if your company can provide us with papers or research in these areas.

GBCA management changes plus new industry engagement team
The GBCA has made some staffing and structural changes to ensure we effectively deliver the 2010-2015 business plan.

GBCA case study - CSR

When leading Australian manufacturer of building products and energy efficient materials, CSR, moved into its new Green Star premises in January 2010, the company was able to provide a 'bricks and mortar' demonstration of its commitment to sustainability.

CSR's Triniti Project was awarded a 5 Star Green Star - Office Interiors v1.1 rating for the fitout of its new offices located in the Triniti III building in the Stockland Triniti campus at North Ryde. More

Curtin University of Technology is the largest of the four public universities in Western Australia, and is presently seeking 5 Star Green Star certification for its new “Engineering Pavilion”.  Scheduled for completion in September 2010, this will be the first building to be certified in WA under the Green Star - Education Tool v1.  Incorporating a photovoltaic power supply, the use of rainwater for WC flushing and xeriscopic landscaping, the building will have interactive monitoring systems for power and water usage and will be a learning tool in environmental management.
