Climate change is shaping up as a critical issue in the federal election campaign – urged on by the environmental warnings we’re witnessing on a more frequent basis. We’ll be working hard over this long election campaign to seek commitment from all political parties on their promises to build a better, more sustainable future for all Australians.

Smart cities are sustainable cities, says GBCA

The Australian Government has released its Smart Cities Plan, which promises to “coordinate and drive smarter city policy” and to draw on innovative finance mechanisms, to deliver essential infrastructure, drive innovation and improve the sustainability of our cities.

A clever retrofit transforms the old Clipsal factory in Adelaide into one of Australia’s most sustainable adaptive reuse buildings. The 2,818 sqm building, which will be home to a new market retail centre and supermarket, forms part of Renewal SA’s ambitious redevelopment of an industrial precinct which will one day be home to more than 2,000 residents.

Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority releases vision for sustainable redevelopment

The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA) is in the process of releasing green building policies for development areas in WA. This policy relates to the Midland redevelopment area and details the requirements for the delivery of sustainable buildings that contribute towards a reduction in emissions, waste and operational costs, and provides performance standards for the assessment of development applications for new buildings.
