Building a sustainable legacy for our schools

The buildings of the past - from Napoleon’s triumphal arch to the grand Pyramids of Giza - were built on the foundations of ego. The buildings of the future, urged the Director of the USGBC’s Center for Green Schools Rachel Gutter at Green Cities 2013, must be built on the foundations of legacy. We can leave no better legacy for future generations than to build schools that are healthy, productive and sustainable. Read more

New WorldGBC report launched at Green Cities

The GBCA to collaborate with Austrade and other GBCs on trade mission to the Middle East
During mid-April 2013 GBCA Executive Director of Advocacy and Business Services, Robin Mellon, will be travelling to five cities across the Middle East to showcase Australia’s sustainable development capabilities and engage with other green building councils in the region. Read more

Green Star submission templates and more launched at Green
Cities 2013
In a special presentation at Green Cities 2013, Green Star Director of Operations, Orjan Lundberg, spoke to industry about several Green Star Revolution initiatives – including the introduction of a number of new submission templates - that will make certification quicker, easier and more consistent in 2013. New Queensland project signs up for Green Star – Communities

Ecco Ripley, located just five kilometres from the centre of Ipswich, is the first development in Queensland to be accepted as a project for the Green Star – Communities PILOT rating tool. Read more

In addition to championing the environmental cause through student education and research, Monash has embarked upon a diverse program of works that puts green research into practice and is delivering sustainable places for students to live and learn. Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre, Abu Dhabi UAE
Located in the United Arab Emirates’ capital city of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre has achieved a five pearl rating under the Estidama Pearl Rating System (PRS) - the local sustainability rating system administered by the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council. The Learning Centre is the first government development to attain the highest possible rating under the Estidama Pearl scheme and involves the redevelopment of the 40-year old Al Ain Zoo to include a wildlife themed safari, destination resort, retail and residential community.  Read more

The USGBC’s Center for Green Schools is looking for the most remarkable schools around the globe that both exemplify how sustainability can be integrated into what and where students learn and help advocate for better, more efficient learning environments. The most outstanding school wins a $5,000 grant and an onsite award presentation. Entries close 1 April 2013. Learn more
