The Green World Cup

In just a few weeks, Melbourne will be welcoming green building leaders to our own Green World Cup as a session at Green Cities 2010.  And I’ll be moderating a session with leaders from green building councils around the world which will explore those green building solutions that can be applied to Australia. GBCA case study

Lilyfield

The Lilyfield Housing Redevelopment in Sydney is the first social housing scheme in Australia to be awarded a Green Star certification. Achieving a 5 Star Green Star - Multi Unit Residential PILOT rating, the Lilyfield Housing Redevelopment is also the first project of its kind to achieve a Green Star residential rating on the East Coast of Australia. GBCA advocacy

In this new section of the Green Building Voice we will be providing on-the-ground updates from our man in Canberra. Amidst the hubbub of a new (and federal election) year, there will be some very serious policy contests, and green buildings are likely to move to centre stage as Australia debates how to best tackle climate change. The GBCA will be working with all parties to promote green buildings, to ensure the federal election campaign produces good policy.

International project highlight

International project

In response to member feedback, we will now be featuring a building from a different country each month, showcasing new and existing buildings that have been certified under different rating systems.

This month, we are pleased to highlight Armstrong World Industries’ corporate headquarters in the USA; an existing building from 1998 which was refurbished to best practice standards. In 2006 the project earned an Energy Star label from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and in 2007 it earned a Platinum rating in the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Existing Buildings Rating System.

Read more about the project.

Grazer

Grazer is a small but rapidly-growing company which specialises in efficient documentation and asset information management across Australia. They do this by providing easy-to-use software which allows access to all the information for a development – from drawings and CAD files to user, operation and maintenance manuals – in digital form.

This connects with Green Star by providing an on-screen Building Users’ Guide that can explain not only how a building should be operated and managed, but how users can access the facilities they need, where facilities are located, and how they link to other services. Intelligent visual presentation tools and building users’ guides, along with the decreased need for paper-based documentation, make Grazer our valued GBCA Member of the Month.

Grazer Pty Ltd has been a GBCA Member organisation since 2008.
