ACT Commits to Green Star
The ACT government is the first state government to make a commitment to use of Green Star. Last month the ACT Labor Government lead by John Stanhope made an election commitment to establish Canberra as an Australian centre for sustainable and innovative design and to introduce the Green Star methodology for all new commercial and multistory residential buildings (when the tool becomes available). Other election commitments included introducing: a sustainability Act, mandatory requirement for 5 star ACThers for residential single dwelling and minimum standard of water efficiency for residential buildings and a greatly expanded role for the office of sustainability. The Green Building Council congratulates the ACT government on its initiative.
