Earn Green Star points with BOSSA post occupancy evaluation survey
Indoor environment quality is an important attribute of sustainable building design as it promotes the health, wellbeing and productivity of building occupants. But how do we know that design attributes are translating to meaningful outcomes for occupants, management and building owners?
It is relatively easy and commonplace to measure for energy or water consumption outcomes, but less so when outcomes relate to an occupants satisfaction with a building. Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) generates feedback on the overall performance of buildings from their occupants’ perspective.
As an indoor environmental quality assurance process, POE promotes learning within the building industry on best practices that promote good outcomes for occupants and highlights approaches that may not have worked as well. Furthermore POE provides buildings owners and managers with detailed diagnostic outputs, that can guide actions to improve satisfaction levels of building occupants.
The Building Occupants Survey System Australia (BOSSA) is a POE system for Australia’s office buildings. BOSSA was developed and is managed by the Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Laboratory research team at the University of Sydney and University of Technology, Sydney. BOSSA was developed in collaboration with a diverse group of industry experts and continues to be guided by this advisory panel.
BOSSA is recognised in Green Star – Design & As Built, Interiors and Performance rating tools through an Innovation Challenge called ‘Market Intelligence’. This Innovation Challenge rewards project teams with 1 innovation point for conducting pre and post-occupancy evaluation when a tenant is moving into a new building or fit-out. Learn more about Green Star Innovation Challenges.
Green Star – Performance also includes a credit called ‘Occupant Comfort and Satisfaction’. This credit awards one point for completing an approved post occupancy survey (for example BOSSA) and up to three points based on outcomes of the survey. For more infromation view the Green Star – Performance submission guidelines.
