GBCA commits to renewable energy
The GBCA is pleased to announce we will now be using 50% Green Power and 50% Gold Power from Climate Friendly in its Sydney and Melbourne offices.
By purchasing Green Power, the GBCA will offset its power by purchasing 'carbon credits' in renewable energy projects within Australia (like wind power, solar, mini-hydro and biomass). Carbon credits are like certificates that represent a reduction of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
Projects that prevent the generation of greenhouse gases or remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere earn these credits, which can in turn then be 'sold' to other businesses and individuals to offset the emissions they generate. One carbon credit is the equivalent to a saving of one tonne of carbon dioxide (CO2).
Gold Power goes a step beyond this. Gold Power is based on offsetting energy use by purchasing certificates in renewable energy projects in developing countries (where new power plants are being built every week).
Not only is GBCA supporting Australia, but it is also supporting the world.
In addition, the GBCA has decided to use Climate Friendly's corporate flight offsetting program to offset all business related flights.
