Green development guru Maria Atkinson has joined the exodus from Lend Lease and will head up the Green Building Council of Australia. As CEO Atkinson has the job of promoting the industry’s transition to sustainable development – a once radical idea that is now rapidly going mainstream. Just look at the board members: Brendan Crotty of Australand who is chair, Sur Holliday, head of Planning NSW, Craig Heaton of ING, Peter Verwer of the Property Council, plus specialists such as Che Wall of Lincolne Scott Engineers, Ken Maher of Hassell Architects and Richard Sebo of RMIT. Atkinson herself is an environmental scientist and winner of several awards acknowledging her contribution to green development.
