Watpac Construction (NSW) granted independent certification for environmental management systems

Tue 14 Oct, 2008 News

One of New South Wales' fastest-growing construction companies, Watpac Construction (NSW), has achieved ISO 14001-2004 certification for their Environmental Management System.

The independent certification was awarded by National Certification Systems International (NCSI), following several rigorous audits conducted at the company's head office, and Birkenhead Point, 8 Central Avenue, and University of New South Wales project sites.

The certification means Watpac Construction (NSW) has now become a third-party certified company, covering our entire Quality, Environmental, and Occupational Health and Safety management systems.

Martin Monro, Watpac Construction (NSW) General Manager, said the certification indicated the company was in the upper echelon of their industry.

"At Watpac Construction (NSW) we pride ourselves on delivering projects in an environmentally responsible manner," Mr Monro said.

"As our parent company, Watpac Limited, is a member of the Green Building Council of Australia, we implement green values into our projects regularly.

"We are excited to have been granted this certification, especially as we have also just been granted Best Practice Accreditation under the NSW Department of Commerce 2008-2010 Contractor Prequalification and Best Practice Accreditation Scheme.

"With both the accreditation and NCSI certification in hand, we can forsee numerous opportunities ahead of us in the New South Wales market."
The NCSI were clearly impressed by Watpac's commitment to quality, the environment, and workplace health and safety.

In their summary report, they stated: "Watpac has demonstrated commitment to implement an environmental management system at its sites, and has effectively managed environmental risk assessments, document control, record control, emergency preparedness, and training-related issues as required by the standard."

Watpac Construction (NSW) is currently undertaking a number of major projects in the state, including the construction of a new building in the Australian Technology Park that will be home to Channel 7, Global Television Services, and Pacific Magazines.

They are also building luxury apartments at Camperdown, student accommodation at the University of New South Wales, and a new office building in Sydney Olympic Park.
