Dandenong to establish and lead innovation
Thu 30 Oct, 2008 News
As part of the State Government's Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative, Dandenong will be the location for the innovation and construction of a centralised services hub - a new model for the sustainable delivery of energy and water to the area's significant developments.
VicUrban's General Manager for Urban Revitalisation, Mr Dominic Arcaro has launched the call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from independent constructors, owners, operators with the capacity to research, develop and establish a centralised services hub in Dandenong.
"This is a unique opportunity to find an innovative solution for the delivery of local services to the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative and then continue to manage its services into the future," Mr Arcaro said.
"The Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative exemplifies how our planning for urban renewal is more than roads and amenity - it's about how we can sustain growing populations and minimise our environmental footprint."
The central services hub will be required to demonstrate the following outcomes:
- provide positive impact on climate change through a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and the consumption of potable water;
- decrease developers' costs of services provision such as:
o cost of maintenance of service infrastructure;
o cost of plant and equipment within each building;
- decrease cost of service supply to tenants;
- allow Dandenong to reposition itself as a demonstration project in the provision of precinct wide sustainable infrastructure;
- allow the replication of the successful innovative technical solution across other VicUrban projects;
- provide market learnings around business models, technical solutions and delivery models for innovative and sustainable services provision; and
- provide a solution to energy provision that is adaptable into the future to remain green, as technology changes.
Revitalising Central Dandenong is being delivered by VicUrban, the State's sustainable urban development agency in partnership with the City of Greater Dandenong.
