Australia Award for Urban Design open for entries

Entries are now open for the Australia Award for Urban Design.
The Australia Award for Urban Design was created by the Urban Design Taskforce and was first awarded in 1996. The Award was established to recognise recent urban design projects of high quality in Australia and to encourage cities, towns and emerging settlements of all sizes to strive similarly for improvement. It acknowledges the critical role of good urban design in the development of our cities and towns.
The Australia Award for Urban Design is hosted by the Planning Institute of Australia, with support from the Australian Institute of Architects, Property Council of Australia, Green Building Council of Australia, Association of Consulting Engineers Australia and the Urban Design Forum. The Prime Minister, The Hon. Kevin Rudd, is patron of the Award.
The Australia Award for Urban Design is given to new Australian urban design initiatives, projects, developments and significant publications that:
- contribute to a wider appreciation of urban design
- are important to current social issues
- connect to contemporary and historic settings
- demonstrate excellence
- help restore ecological health
- make a significant cultural contribution
- are purposeful and innovative
- are open to change and adaptation
- are purposeful and innovative
- are open to change and adaptation
- are ecologically sound, and
- are no more than 3 years old.
Nominated projects must be within Australia but do not have to be constructed and can be submitted as a study or proposed development.Judges may also give merit awards to acknowledge commendable entries.
Nominations close 26 June 2009 so get in quick.
