The 'loop' becomes first PILOT project

Rock Development’s ‘loop’ precinct development has become the very first registered Green Star – Communities PILOT project.

A long term advocate for sustainable urban development, Rock Development Group has supported the development of Green Star – Communities as the rating tool’s principal sponsor, and was committed to becoming one of the first to test the rating tool in its PILOT form.

“We are proud to have the first registered Green Star – Communities PILOT project.  Loop will provide opportunities for everyone to participate in an active, enjoyable and community-oriented lifestyle and will set new benchmarks for world’s best practice for sustainable community living and property development,” said Maria Efkarpidis from Rock Development Group.

Innovative urban planning is at the heart of loop’s design, with Rock Development Group’s plan for the precinct including Green Star-rated buildings, electric vehicle recharge points, a residential car pooling scheme, precinct-wide energy generation, water capture and waste management, and a focus on healthy, active living.

“The loop aims to be one of Australia’s greenest community developments, and the Green Star team is looking forward to working with Rock Development Group to test Green Star – Communities’ credits and benchmarks,” says Andrew Aitken, the GBCA’s Executive Director of Green Star.

“We congratulate Rock Development Group on being the first to register a Green Star - Communities PILOT project, and hope to engage with many other project teams Australia wide during the PILOT phase,” Mr Aitken concludes.
