Green Star - Communities PILOT rating tool officially released

After two-and-a-half years of hard work and extensive collaboration, the Green Star – Communities PILOT rating tool was officially launched by Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, at the 2012 Built Environment Meets Parliament (BEMP) Summit last week in Canberra.

An industry pre-release of the PILOT was also hosted by Green Star – Communities Principal Sponsor Rock Development Group at the ‘loop’, which has since become the first project to register as a Green Star – Communities PILOT project.

“This great new rating tool goes to the heart of what we are seeking to achieve with our National Urban Policy - and that is to make our cities more productive, sustainable and liveable,” said Mr Albanese at BEMP.

“The Green Building Council of Australia is to be commended for developing this rating tool, which will be of vast help to governments, developers and the public who want the best information to guide their decisions about sustainability”.

In his address at the industry pre-release at loop, ACT Minister for Economic Development, The Hon Andrew Barr MLA commended the release of the Green Star – Communities PILOT rating tool, saying it could “only improve our standard of building and planning”.

He expressed excitement at the prospect of better community outcomes for his electorate, saying “I look forward to the benefits of (Green Star – Communities') implementation in future developments around the ACT.”
