Product and Forest Certification Schemes

Thu 5 Aug, 2010 Materials Category

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) does not test, review or certify products or materials. Instead, third party certification bodies are relied upon for testing and environmental assessments of products and materials which are being claimed within some Materials category credits.

Product Certification

GBCA-recognised product certification schemes

Fitout products (such as flooring and loose furniture) that have been certified for their environmental merit by a GBCA-recognised product certification scheme are rewarded in the Green Star Material Calculators.

Forest Certification

GBCA-recognised forest certification schemes

For the purposes of Green Star, forest certification is relevant only to timber and timber products that are claimed within the 'Timber' credit, and for products containing timber components claimed within Green Star Material Calculators.

Marketing of Products and Materials in Relation to Green Star

The GBCA Trade Mark Policy outlines the GBCA's requirements for references to the Green StarĀ® trade mark in product literature. All references to Green StarĀ® in product advertising must comply with the requirements set out in this document.

The GBCA strongly recommends that you consider third-party validation of your product's environmental merit, as it greatly facilitates the Green Star certification process and the transition of the property industry toward sustainability, as outlined in 'Dollars and Sense of Green Building' and 'The Sustainable Building Pathway'.
