The Rating Tool

Green Star – Interiors was released in October 2012 as an independent, national, voluntary rating tool to drive the development of healthy, productive and sustainable interior fitouts.

Currently available as a PILOT rating tool, Green Star - Interiors has been developed by the GBCA in close consultation with a range of stakeholders and industry experts, and the credit development process has been overseen by members of the Green Star Interiors Technical Working Group.

The Green Star – Interiors PILOT rating tool contains 32 credits across eight holistic environmental impact categories: ‘Management’, ‘IEQ’, ‘Energy’, ‘Transport’, ‘Water’, ‘Materials’, ‘Land Use & Ecology’ and ‘Emissions’. Project innovations are also rewarded under the rating tool via the Green Star ‘Innovation’ category.

Under the rating tool, Green Star – Interiors projects can be rewarded with a Green Star certified ratings of 4 Star representing ‘Best Practice’, 5 Star representing ‘Australian Excellence’ or 6 Star representing ‘World Leadership’ in sustainable fitouts.

Green Star – Interiors PILOT credits

The Green Star – Interiors PILOT rating tool has been developed on the basis of many credits already in operation within Green Star, including many from the Green Star – Office Interiors v1.1 rating tool. However, through a rigorous credit development and consolidation process, the PILOT rating tool has resulted in the amalgamation of many credits, as well as the introduction of several new ones. A document has been developed to assist stakeholders in understanding how issues are addressed by the new Green Star – Interiors PILOT rating tool’s credits: Green Star - Interiors Approach to Categories and Credits
