Green Star Communities Framework

The Green Star - Communities framework provides a common language for new and existing sustainable communities in Australia. It has been developed by industry and government to encourage best practise in sustainable outcomes across the systems within the community. The framework was developed using a collaborative and consultative process over a 12 month period (refer to Stage 1 Consultation).
The objectives of the framework are to:
- Provide national consistency and a common language around the definition of best practice sustainable communities;
- Encourage innovation and excellence in our approach to creating communities of the future;
- Promote integration across the spectrum of sustainability issues relating to sustainable communities;
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement during the evolution of sustainable communities; and
- Provide a basis for ongoing assessment and evaluation of sustainable community evolution
The framework is being used for many purposes by Government and industry across Australia, and we encourage you to start considering how it may help on your next project, plan or policy. A Project Checklist has been developed to help embody the Green Star - Communities Principles in your work (refer to the Green Star Communities Framework Checklist).
Another primary function of the Green Star Communities framework is to guide the development of the Green Star - Communities rating tool.
The framework acknowledges that there are numerous tools and mechanisms being used in Australia and internationally that help guide the evolution of sustainable communities. This framework does not replace them, but rather provides the broader context for their development and application.
We welcome your feedback on the Green Star - Communities Framework. Please submit any comments on the framework to Adam Beck, either via email or telephone.
