On 20th January 2010 the Australian Government Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency (DCCEE) released a consultation paper on the 'Tax Breaks for Green Buildings' program. The Tax Breaks program is part of the Government's strategy to improve the energy efficiency of existing commercial buildings. It seeks to unlock energy efficiency opportunities in certain types of existing buildings and reduce the impact of Australia's built environment on greenhouse gas emissions.
The Tax Breaks program is a voluntary scheme which will complement the Commercial Building Disclosure and Energy Efficiency Opportunities programs, which have served to heighten awareness of the importance of building energy efficiency and to identify cost effective energy savings. Whilst the GBCA has been part of the program's reference group, and will be making a submission to the DCCEE regarding this consultation paper, GBCA members are encouraged to make submissions as well.
