What does "Eco Preferred Content" refer to under the Material Calculators?
Wed 11 Jun, 2008 (Updated: Tue 4 Nov, 2008)
For the purposes of the Green Star Materials Calculators, "Eco Preferred Content" refers only to the percentage by mass of either an entire product or the components of a product which has been certified by a third-party certification scheme recognised by the Green Building Council of Australia. These currently include:
- Organically certified renewable products
- FSC certified timber
- Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA)
Reused products (e.g. workstations, chairs, etc.) or components (e.g. tabletops) can count towards the "Eco Preferred Content" of a product, assuming relevant evidence (as stipulated in the technical manual) is available to prove that the products or components are indeed reused.
