Site Tour: Currambine Community Centre
Join us on Thursday 30 January 2014 as the City of Joondalup take us on a behind-the-scenes tour of its new sustainable Community Centre. The 4 Star Green Star – Public Building PILOT certified Currambine Community Centre combines a playgroup, youth centre, activities hall for fitness classes and a main hall for functions.
“Making small changes within our control is how we can make a measurable contribution to preserving and enhancing our local environment. It’s doing what we can locally to be part of the response to a global issue like environmental sustainability,” says Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard of the Council’s decision to go green at the Currambine Community Centre.
The Centre’s design includes a range of environmentally sustainable features including rainwater harvesting, a photovoltaic panel array, passive solar design, energy-efficient lighting and low water consumption appliances. These features will save the Council thousands each year in running costs, and serve as a sustainable learning resource for the local community.
