2. Leadership by example
2.1 5-Star energy performance for new government office buildings
The Queensland Government has increased its energy efficiency performance standard for all new government-owned office buildings to target a 5-star (out of 5) non-residential energy performance standard, where practical to do so. The standards adopted is the National Australian Built environment Rating System (NABERS) - Energy for Offices.
2.2 Green retrofit of existing government buildings
As announced in the 2009-10 State Budget, the Queensland Government is investing $8 million to progressively retrofit existing Government buildings to increase their energy efficiency. The retrofits will aim to achieve a 5-star (out of 5) non- residential energy performance standard for the particular type of building, using NABERS - Energy for Offices.
Examples of government facilities to be considered by the program include schools, hospitals, aged care and other community health facilities, office buildings, police stations, emergency services buildings, TAFE colleges, correctional centres, research facilities and public housing.
