Position on GBCA Board: Chair
Tony Arnel, Chair of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), is Victoria's Building and Plumbing Commissioner. He is responsible for the regulation of the state's building and plumbing systems and advises the Minister for Planning on all building control and plumbing industry matters.
Tony has overseen Victoria's $17 billion building industry during a period of dramatic growth, and during a period of new emphasis on sustainability.
The Building Commission is widely regarded in Australia and internationally as a best practice example of building administration. The Plumbing Industry Commission is the leading regulator of its type in Australia and is integral to the Victorian Government's aspirations to provide more sustainable water solutions in the built environment.
Tony is a founding Director of the GBCA. Over the past decade he has influenced the national sustainability debate, firstly with his work with the City of Melbourne, particularly in the areas of energy efficiency and water conservation. More recently, Tony has been instrumental in delivering the 5 Star housing energy and water standard, the implementation of new residential and commercial sustainability standards into the national building code, and the accelerated uptake of Green Star rating tools for buildings.
