Romilly Madew leads Australia's peak industry association responsible for transforming the built environment to design, construct and operate sustainably.
Romilly is an experienced green building, sustainable communities and cities advocate. Romilly's recent achievements include:
- Chair of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) Cities task group; member of the Australian Government's State of Australian Cities indicators reference group, presenter and participant in the COAG Reform Council's Cities workshop.
- Chair of the International Rating Tools Committee for the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), the international umbrella organisation of over 90 green building councils; committee member of the WorldGBC International Policy Task group.
- Founder and steering committee member of the Built Environment Meets Parliament (BEMP) initiative - an annual conversation with government and industry at Parliament House.
- Steering committee member of the Business Leaders Forum on Sustainable Development.
- National winner of the Telstra Business Women's Awards 2009 (Community and Government).
- Lead role in establishing the WorldGBC's Asia Pacific Green Building Network.
- Keynote speeches at Asian sustainable building conferences in Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Singapore.
- Ambassador for the 1 million women campaign to engage Australian women to take practical action on climate change.
- Regular media commentator on ABC 24's 'Newsmakers' program.
Romilly lives on the Northern Beaches, Sydney, with her husband and three children. Romilly is also a volunteer lifesaver and a Nippers age manager.
Other achievements include:
- Former board member of the ACT Government's Land Development Agency.
- Former Executive Director of the ACT Division of the Property Council of Australia, as well as the Council's National Executive Director of Sustainability.
- Represented the GBCA at the Australian Government's Australia 2020 Summit.
- Involved in the development of the 2006 Sustainable Building Pathways report.
- Author of the Dollars and Sense of Green Buildings 2006.
- Included in the ABC Carbon 50 list of Australia's most influential advocates for climate change awareness and action.
