Executive Team

Romilly Madew leads Australia’s peak industry association responsible for creating sustainable buildings and places for everyone. Romilly is an experienced green building, sustainable communities and cities advocate, both nationally and internationally. Romilly’s current positions and experience includes:
- Board member of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) and the Chair of the WorldGBC International Rating Tools Task group. The WorldGBC is the international umbrella organisation of more than 90 green building councils;
- Deputy Chair of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) and Chair of ASBEC’s Cities task group;
- Member of the Australian Government’s National Urban Policy Forum, and the State of Australian Cities indicators reference group;
- Member of the Australian Government’s Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities Measuring Sustainability Roundtable;
- Member of the Australian Government’s Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Independent Expert Group on the development of the Climate Futures Report;
- Participant in the COAG Reform Council’s Cities series of workshops;
- Founder and steering committee member of the Built Environment Meets Parliament (BEMP) initiative – an annual conversation with government and industry at Parliament House;
- National and NSW winner of the Telstra Business Women’s Awards 2009 (Community and Government);
- Regular media commentator on ABC 24’s ‘Newsmakers’ program; and
- Regular presenter on being a working mother and the importance of flexible work arrangements.
Other achievements include:
- Lead role in establishing the WorldGBC’s Asia Pacific Green Building Network;
- Supported the establishment of the NZ, South African, Hong Kong and Indonesian GBCs;
- Keynote speeches at a number of Asian, North American and European sustainable building conferences as well speaking at the Climate Action, ‘Cities of the Future’ panel debate in Durban in 2011 (a COP17 side event);
- Former committee member of the WorldGBC International Policy Task group;
- Former board member of the ACT Government’s Land Development Agency;
- Former Executive Director of the ACT Division of the Property Council of Australia, as well as the Council’s National Executive Director of Sustainability;
- Involved in the development of the 2006 Sustainable Building Pathways report; and
- Author of the Dollars and Sense of Green Buildings 2006.
Romilly lives on the Northern Beaches in Sydney with her husband and three children; she is a volunteer lifesaver, ocean swimmer and a Nipper age manager.
Catherine Andon - Executive Assistant / Office Manager
Catherine Andon joined the GBCA in 2010 and supports Romilly Madew and Robin Mellon. Catherine has a strong administrative background with more than 10 years' experience providing executive support. Catherine is also responsible for managing office procedures ensuring effective and efficient coordination of GBCA offices and its employees. Prior to joining the GBCA, Catherine worked in a number of law firms in areas such as medical negligence, dust diseases, public liability and workers' compensation.
